Local Attractions

Cooter's Place: Actor Ben Jones, who starred as Cooter in the late-1970s TV show The Dukes of Hazzard, owns this "good-ole-boys" hang-out, where you can buy Dukes of Hazzard Merchandise and other Southern knick-knacks. A museum dedicated to the cult TV hit displays props, records, costumes, posters, and scripts related to the show and its stars. It's popular with tourists year-round, but especially each summer, when Nashville hosts the annual DukesFest charity event at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and the Music City Motorplex, featuring appearances by former cast members “Bo Duke”, Catherine Bach “Daisy Duke”, and many others. In 2007 it was reported that more than 60,000 fans attended DukesFest, which also includes stunt-car driving, wrestling, and live music. A tour of the museum will take 20 to 30 minutes where you can also have your picture taken in front of THE General Lee.

Fun Mountain Amusement Park: A large family amusement park that features a wide variety of activities for the whole family with such features as bumper cars, a bungee trampoline, a ferris wheel, miniature golf course, the longest chair lift in Gatlinburg, the largest arcade in the area, an antique carousel, and a variety of midway games.

Bent Creek Golf Village: Bent Creek Golf Course, designed by three time Masters and British Open Champion Gary Player, is a par 72 course that opened in 1972. The front nine sets upon the valley floor while the back nine offers all the challenges of a mountain course. A beautiful sparkling mountain srping gently flows throughout the entire course making for a breathtaking contrast between the water and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Southern Living Travel Guide rated Bent Creek Golf Resort one of the "Top Fifty Golf Courses in the South."

And some containers are just plain creepy and don’t belong on dining room tables. In addition to the growing shaker collection, pepper grinders and the history of salt, pepper and other seasonings are sprinkled throughout the museum. Admission to the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum is $3 per person and the price can be applied towards any salt and pepper shaker set for sale in the gift shop, which also sells locally made art and fine jewelry.
